Liberty Partnerships are part of Binghamton University's Center for Research on Social and Educational Equity (CRSEE). This program supports close cooperation between researchers and practitioners. CRSEE researchers address major issues in curriculum, cognition and teaching, institutional organization, policy and practice, and the interaction of community, culture, and learning. The curriculum is interdisciplinary, flexible, and designed to encourage self-directed learning.
The project's goal is to help Broome and Tioga County's schools reduce the dropout rate by building skills among high-risk students and helping them find suitable opportunities for post-secondary education. The Liberty Partnerships primarily focus on building motivational, interpersonal, and academic skills in students by supporting and implementing the following skills:
Personnel
One city school district (Binghamton) and two exurban-suburban (Newark Valley and Susquehanna Valley) collaborate with SUNY Binghamton in the project. Professional staff includes a director and a coordinator at the University and an on-site coordinator for each school district.
Funding
The SUNY - Binghamton Liberty Partnerships project is funded by the NYS Education Department's Division of Postsecondary Equity and Access Programs. There is no charge for participation.
